Spintronics
Sprintonics is a study pertaining to the spin of electrons for processing and saving data. The spin in particular is represented as intrinsic angular momentum, and can be either a spin-up or a spin-down. This allows for an extra degree of freedom, thus having the ability to process, change, and store data, which can prove to be more advanced than just solely utilizing the electron's charge.
There has recently been a lot of research conducted on advancing spintronics, allowing for growth in areas like lack of power and presentation saturation. The basis of spintronics is based on the quantum mechanical properties of electrons. Utilizing different complex formulas, the foundation of spintronics is built. A benefit of spintronics is that it utilizes magnetic orientation (the spin of the electrons) as its primary way of storing and processing data. This means that if there is no power going to the electrons, they will not lose the data. Additionally, utilizing electron spins as a way to store data is much more energy efficient and produces less heat than electrical methods.
Due to these benefits, there are a few appliances that utilize spintronics. One example is Magnetoresistive Random-Access memory, which utilizes magnetic tunnel junctions to store data, and is able to collect data without needing a continuous power supply.
Spintronics have proven to be a huge advancement for storing data. Due to its benefits surrounding holding data and energy efficiency, more and more equipment may start utilizing spintronics as their main data storage process.
